The Diana Award Visit

Empathize

Last month, I had the honor of participating in the VR for Good creator's lab summit and had a fantastic experience. The depth and breadth of talent were inspiring and enriching.
When I found out about the partnership with the Diana Award Anti-Bullying campaign I thought it would be a great fit. We can use animation and VR to push the medium and take chances.

So get a better understanding of the Diana Award mission I visited the office in London.   It was important for me to get a better understanding of what it is like for kids growing up in this world.

Alex Holmes and his team at the Diana Award arranged a meeting with several students from the anti-bully campaign in London. These extraordinary children shared their experiences, open themselves up and brainstorm until all the whiteboards were full. They discuss their specific experiences and added details which will bring more authenticity to the project. It was not all business; thanks to Amy Seidenwurm and Oculus we had some VR fun too!

Art imitating life
I asked the Diana Award ambassador to act out some possible bullying scenarios.   Learning about how their experience was invaluable.  It helps me empathize with the audience and grounds the experience and makes it more authentic.  The performance below by the Diana Award ambassador inspired a scene from the Hallway sequence.
